My Biggest Mistake made in Internet Marketing
![]()
This is a post I really do not care to make. I found myself making the biggest mistake I have made since I started Internet Marketing back in May of this year.
I am very big on building relationships with my list of subscribers. Am I good at it. Some say yes and others probably will never tell me their opinion no matter how much I ask them.
Well can you please learn a very valuable lesson from my mistake I made today?
When you Market to your list and you have told them who you are and the things you stand for and believe in, do not go against these things no matter what the circumstances are.
I promoted a product today that was an awesome product. But the name of the product alone was something that totally was against everything I believe in. I thought if I promoted it to help out someone very close to me that it would be OK if I donated all of the commissions I made to local youth programs. I used this to justify going against the things I promote myself as being. I thought if I took what I seen as bad and used it for good it would be OK.
Once I sent out the promotion I felt I did something wrong and boy was I right on the money.
I have always asked for responses to emails and to promotions I have sent out for and I receive a very small handful of emails which usually are generated by the same few subscribers each time.
Well today I did not ask for any response at all and when I went to check my email I found my inbox filled with over 75 emails from my subscribers asking me what I was thinking and how disappointed they were in me. They expressed that they did not care who it was for that I promoted for, and it didn’t matter what I was going to do good with the money that was generated.
The fact remained that I became just like every other marketer out there when I did this and they hoped they never see this side again.
WOW! What a wake up call!
Here are some comments I received:
“Jeff I never thought you would ever promote anything like this”
“Who is the real Jeff”
“Well I bet that email you just sent eats away at your conscience doesn’t it Jeff? It should!”
“Jeff you really want me to put this software on my desktop with a name like that
and it is hard to believe that this even came from you”
Those are some of the kind ones…
So what did I learn…When you proclaim to be something you better be that person at all times. People remain on your list as a subscriber because of the person you come across as being. If you are not going to be that person then you better be prepared for what is coming your way. I chose to do something today that went totally against everything I believe in and it was just wrong on my part and for this I am very sorry.
This product I promoted was one of the best software products I have ever promoted. Want to know how many I sold?
Just one…This was for 2 reasons. One It was being promoted by someone that should not have promoted it no matter how good it was and the other reason was over half of the links that were clicked on pointed back to my power link generator and never were opened in the first place.
Do you think that was a coincidence?
Well I wish I did not have to make these stupid mistakes. I really don’t like to make post like this on my blog. But I really hope that you will take it to heart and stick to being the person you promote yourself as being.
Make it a successful day
Jeff
