What in the world is a Niche?  Do I need to rub some kind of lotion on it?

The term niche is a word that is thrown around very often in Internet marketing circles that you may be wondering… just what in the world is a niche?

 

A niche is a group of people who have a common interest. They can be people who have special needs children, people who are buying their first puppy, people who compete in car shows, or maybe they are adoptive parents…you get the picture.

You will usually find that these groups of people usually have a very intense passion for what they do. And they usually have the same needs and problems as well.   For example the parents of the specail needs children may all be looking for support programs that they can use to help them with raising their children, or what rights their children have to an education.  So, your first step is to choose a group of people that you can identify with.

Why is this important?

Because an online business is all about relationship.  It is not a good thing to start an online business that you have no intrest in whatsoever.  Doing this is just setting yourself up for a let down and defeat.  You must like these people. You like the things they like. You buy the same things they buy. And you have the same needs and problems that they have. The best way to go about this is to  pick a niche that you have a passion for if at all possible.  Of course it has to be profitable so research will be needed.
Another reason for choosing a niche according to your passions is that starting an online business is flat hard work!  Ouch did I say that wonderful 4 letter word W**K!  Now do not get me wrong there really is nothing to terribly difficult, but it will require some work on your part.  If you enjoy what you are doing it will be so much easier  to persevere in your new online business. If you want an Internet business that does not require any time or money or an easy button to just push with no work at all, then you have come to the wrong place!

 You need a plan and you need to commit some time, energy and money to that plan or you will not succeed.

  • Make sure you play to your strengths.
  • Know something about your Niche
  • Speak their language
  • Know their problems
  • Know how to solve the problems
  • Know how they think
  • Know what they believe
  • Know what they REALLY want

If you want to get your subscribers to Know you Like you and Trust you, then you need to become one of them.  You need to become the authority and the expert in your Niche Market.

I can’t stress enough that everything you do in Internet Marketing is all about a relationship.  In this particular case it is the relationship with your potential customer.

Find a good  profitable Nich, Do your research.  I look for a couple good products already selling on ClickBank and Then I do a search on Google to see if their is paid advertising for the Niche.  This is a good starting point for finding your profitable Niche.

Interviewing Experts to Create Information Products.

If you have seen or purchased any of my products such as layoff your boss, you will know that I love using Interviews as a way to capture and deliver great content to my subscribers.

I have interviewed some of the greats like Keith Wellman, Gary Ambrose, Ken McArthur, Sterling Valentine, Liz Tomey, Simon Leung, Harris Fellman, Heather Vale, Frank Sousa, Matthew Glanfield, Brian Edmondson, Cyndi Parker, Seo expert Paul Counts, and others.

The greatest things about Interviewing experts to create Internet Marketing Information products is that you do not have to be the expert yourself.  By Interviewing experts there is a transfer of authority from the expert to yourself if done properly.

Have you ever watched someone like Heather Vale “The Barbara Walters of the Internet” Interview an expert?

Do you think that Heather was an expert on every subject she has ever interviewed an expert on?  No way. but does she come across as anything less?  My answer is again No Way.  Why is this?  Well through proper research of the expert she interviews and some simple techniques of the way she handles and controls the interview she comes across as an expert just as the expert does through the transfer of authority.

Make sure you do your research on the expert you interview.  Do Google searches, search the experts Blogs, go to live events and meet and network with experts.  Show the expert and your  target audience that you really cared to get to know the person that you are interviewing.

Have and show the expert you are going to approach to do an interview with that you have a good solid reason for wanting to do the interview.  Don’t just interview without purpose.

Something to remember…

 Interviews are not just a list of questions.  They are not just conversations.  It is important to remember that there are third parties involved in the interview…that is the audience.  Make them feel a part of the interview.  Build a relationship, not just with the person you are interviewing but with your audience as well.  Make them feel like you are getting the information to benefit them as well as you.

One of the biggest things I learned from a class I attended with Heather Vale on interviewing is what Heather called, “The Number 1 Skill Of an Interview!”

LISTEN!  I am not telling you to listen to me I am telling you that that is the number 1 skill… “LISTEN!”

No interview goes exactly as planned.  Every interview I have done so far drives this point home clearly.  If you learn nothing else from the tips I give you learn to listen and listen well.  It could make all the difference in the quality of interviews you get.

If you want good content for your Information Products in any Niche then I suggest going to a live event and Interviewing an Expert.  And my expertise advice is to do a live face to face video recorded Interview.  This is the best way to build relationships and connect with your target audience, as well as build relationships with the experts you are interviewing.

Not only that once you have the recorded face to face interview, you then can strip the audio out of the video for your customers to use with MP3’s and you also can have them transcribed as e-books.

My recommendation to you today is get started  creating your Internet Marketing Information Products by doing Interviews with the experts right away.

Discovering the Value you have to offer others is Crucial

No matter how many coaching classes I open up or work with others helping them become successful online, I continually run into the same problem over and over.

When I do an analysis on the individual to find out what level they are at, I ask a series of questions.

A couple of questions I ask are:  ” What weaknesses do you feel you have,”  Usually this pretty much fills the conversation for the next 20 minutes until  stop them.  Why is it we can find it so easy to focus on the weaknesses we have?  The next question I ask is, “what strengths and value  do you feel you have to offer to the process.”  Usually I hear silence on the other end at this point.

As we begin to talk I discover that life has beat them down so bad, and someone has  told that person over and over that they are just going to fail and should give up, until that person does not feel like they really have anything to give at all.

They have been hanging around so much negativity in their life that they no longer believe they have value to offer.

That is just plain crazy.  Everyone of us is valuable and everyone of us has value to offer.

You have to get rid of the negativity in your life.  I do realize that some of this negativity is coming from those around you that may be the closest to you.  It may be your spouse, or your parents, or children.  This makes it very hard to escape but it just has to stop if you are to find the success you are looking for.  Well I am certainly not suggessting you get a divorce, or get rid of the parents or children, so what are you to do?

Most of this is going to have to come from within you.  You are going to  need to stop dwelling on what other people are thinking and the impression that you are going to make on other people and really start just start to focus on giving value.

Forget about people who might find your goals and Dreams as being silly and a waste of time.  Focus on the value you’re going to give by the actions you are going to take.  Focus on the people who will benefit from your actions, and how exactly they’re going to appreciate the value. .

The greatest part of discovering the value you have to offer and then GIVE is this…  It begins to return back to you over and over in ways you would have never imagined possible.

You need to realize your potential and your strengths and the value that you really have and you need to focus on the strengths.

One  thing we tend to do is not use the strengths we have to our advantage.  You were given these strengths or developed them for a reason.  Focus on giving with the strengths you have.

One of my weaknesses is technical issues.  Well focusing on the fact that I did not know a lot of the tech issues kept me down for a long time.

Once I focused on the strengths and let someone else handle the things I didn’t know so well I began to really get things done.  Hey I have developed 4 products and working on number 5 in the last year.  Everyone of them had technical aspects involved.  Guess what they got done and I focused on what I was good at.

Realize right now, even if you can’t see it in yourself as you look into your inner self right now that YOU ARE VALUABLE! 

Everyone and I mean everyone has tremendous value that they can bring to the table.

Just trust me on this and let’s work to discover the greatness that is in you.  What you have may be just the thing that my business is lacking, and what you lack I may be the person that will be the best fit to help you achieve your greatness.

Isn’t it time you discover your value and begin to share it with those who are waiting for you to come along.

You can make such a huge IMPACT in the lives of those around you and around the world…But first you must take some action.

The action you take will decide the IMPACT you make, either positive or negative.

Stop Listening To The Chickens And Reach Your Success Potential

jeffsf5.jpgSomething you may not know about me is that I raise chickens.

I love watching chickens out in the yard…It is something I do to relax and de-stress.

A couple years ago I found some abandoned goose eggs and put them under a chicken to see if they would hatch.

The chicken was successful at hatching out one of the eggs and several of her own eggs.

Much to the Chickens dislike the goose wanted to go in the water.  This just did not set well with the chicken.

The story you are about to read is much like the story I just wrote.

Think about what you are trying to do in your life as you try to find success and reach your greatness, and who is like the chickens that are telling you that it is not possible for you to achieve your greatness.

Maybe you heard the story about a farmer one spring that enjoyed watching two eagles flying near a distant bluff. After failing to see the eagles for a couple of days he went to investigate and he found an abandoned nest that held an egg which he took back to the farm.

With the faint hope that it might hatch and a baby eagle grow up and fly, he placed the egg in a nest in the farm house. Two weeks later the egg did hatch and the strange looking baby eagle joined the chickens in the yard of the hen house.

And as the first days passed, the eaglet learned the habits of the chickens, feeding on the corn provided by the farmers. Noticing birds flying overhead one beautiful morning the eaglet remarked, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to fly like that. I wish I could fly.

” But you know how chickens are. They quickly admonished this foolish thinking. “You’re a chicken,” they said, “You’re not meant to fly.” The fearful mother hen said, “If you try to fly you will surely get caught in the chicken wire and you’ll break your neck.“ And the strutting rooster father added logically, “Even if you did fly over the fence, it would be hard to find food and you’d probably starve. Don’t come back here looking for food if you do.” And all the chickens agreed the baby eagle should not try to fly.

“It sure would be wonderful to fly and soar like that. I wish I could do it.” But he didn’t try. He believed the chickens. And as the days and weeks passed the eaglet said little about flying. He spent more time alone, isolated in the hen house. And then one day the farmer noticed that the eaglet was no longer in the chicken yard.

He hoped the eaglet had grown big enough to fly away and so he went in to investigate. The hen house was dark. He turned on the light and noticed a clump of feathers over in the corner. He picked it up and discovered that it was the young eagle. The eaglet was dead.The story is sad because the eaglet saw his dreams in the birds flying overhead and if he’d only tried, he too could have flown. But instead, he listened to the chickens and he died without ever fulfilling his true identity.

It is the gravitational attraction of the familiar that pulls us away from becoming what we want to be, what we ought to be, what God wants us to be. Take a step of courage, and break out of this gravitational attraction of the familiar. Dreams are not achieved automatically.

Our dreams happen in the face of fear and always with resistance from the chickens. What is it that you need to do that takes courage? What step do you need to take in your life that is going to require you to quit listening to the chickens in your life?

What is keeping you from reaching your GREATNESS?

What is keeping you from the success you deserve and are intended to have?

Will you rise to your greatness like the Eagle could have if he would have stopped listening to the chickens, or will you continue to listen to those who are to chicken to rise to their potential and greatness and allow your dreams and your success to die in the corner of the chicken coop like the eagle did.

Obstacles keeping You from Online Success

jeffsf5.jpgI basically had 2 obstacles that I had to overcome before I could become successful online. When I overcame the first one it was what I needed to have my first 6 figure launch with my very first product. Layoff Your Boss

Before I could get started I had to believe in myself and know that I had something of value to give.

Who was I? What could I possibly bring to the table for others that would be of value to someone else.

All my life I was taught that you worked a 9-5 job and you gave everything you had to that job and if you lost it you went back out and looked again and you just kept this cycle going until basically you could afford to retire or you were no longer physically capabale of working anymore.

I was in my comfort zone and the step I needed to take to proceed forward into Internet Marketing was unknown and very fearful. I just kept saying the words I can’t do it. The plain fact was…I was scared I would fail.

When I look back i realize that the comfort zone I was in was not very comfortable at all..It was actually worse than the fear I felt that was keeping me from moving forward. How can foreclosure, bill collectors hounding you for money you don’t have, threats of layoffs, looking for more employment, stress, watching your family watch you go through the stress and struggles, marital problems caused by the stress…How can we call that a comfort zone. It isn’t.

My second obstacle was feeling I was alone and that I had to do everything on my own. Once I realized it was help that found my success, I reached back out for more help and once again found my forward momentum.

If I could give one piece of advice it would be… Believe in yourself and realize you have so much value to give. It may not be all that apparent to you right now.. but it is there. Search within yourself and discover the valuable person you really are and then just give back to others. To many people have been beaten down in life and need to once again discover the passion and the value they were created with.

When I got to the blog I was shocked…Why I am not sure because I should have known this all the time…

Some may beg to differ but they would be wrong…

But the reason that they are the best is because they are more than just a subscriber to me.  Even though I may not show that at all  times it is true.

What a title.  I think it is part of all of our desire to be able to have some kind of Impact in the world or in someones life.  If it isn’t it should be.

I have been putting together some mastermind groups with individuals from my list of subscribers to help them start gaining some momentum in their online adventures, and I found something that was very shocking to me and yet when I really think about it, I really should not have been shocked at all.  The reason I should not be shocked is because I was just like these people just months ago, and never even realized it.

During the first call I set up with these mastermind groups I go around and I ask those in the group to introduce themselves and tell a little bit about themselves.  I then ask them to share what they feel their number one strengths and weaknesses are, and let the group know what they feel they have to offer the group in was of adding value to our group effort.

I was really amazed that at it usually averages 4 out of the 6 in the group can tell me every weakness they have but usually do not know what there strengths are or what value they have that they can share with the group.

We have been beaten down so bad in todays society that we no longer can see the value that is buried beneath the pain and struggles.

How can we create Impact if we feel we have nothing of value to give?

I want to end this by saying God did not create any junk.  Inside of you there are still some good hot coals still burning.

Stir up the ashes and let a little air get to them.  Add some good kindling in the form of a good mentor or coach, or freind and let some flames begin to start burning higher and higher.

You have so much value to give back that can create a huge Impact in someones life and maybe even in the world.

Be the Factor that creates some IMPACT today!

Ken McArthur’s jvALERT LIVE 2008 Make it Happen

jeff wellman layoff your boss marketingkenbusiness200.gifWell I am going to have the extreme fortune to attend Ken McArthur’s jvALERT live again in the next couple weeks.  The actual dates i will be gone are Feb, 8,9,10th.

This will be my second jvAlert Live that I will be attending and my 3rd live event of Ken McArthur.

If you remember right back in May I was very fortunate to have the privileged of attending Ken’s Get Your Product Done live event in Atlanta Georgia.  I remember going there with Fear of wondering just how I was going to be able to fit in with these big time GURUS of the Internet Marketing world.

To my surprise I found that the fear I felt was for nothing.  I can remember the exact feelings I had when I was greeted by Ken himself.  It was like we had known each other our whole life.  Not only was I made to feel right at home, but this is where I was able to actually Get My Product Done just like his event was titled. 

If you remember my first product Layoff Your Boss, I had several live interviews with Gurus Like Heather Vale, Keith Wellman, Harris Fellman, Frank Sousa, Simone Leung, and Ken McArthur himself.

I can’t recommend live events enough as a excellent way to get great content for your products.

I almost did not attend jvAlert Live this time around as it was really not in my budget at this time. I actually contacted Ken and told him that I was not going to be able to attend this time around due to finances.  This time of year was just not a good time of year for me due to taxes and everything I need to be prepared for.

Well this was not OK with Ken evidently because i soon was answering my phone and hearing Ken himself on the other end.

He was wanting to know if there was something he could do to change my mind.  he didn’t want to see anything keep me from attending and if there was something he could do to help to let him know.  He did not want money to be something that kept me from attending.

You may think that he offered this help to me because he knows me and I am part of the so called “In” crowd.  Thing about it is that he would do it for anyone that he thought he could help out. And if you were to ask for his help. 

Well I found myself getting on the computer and buying my plane tickets right after I got off the phone.

What I started to think about next hit my like a ton of bricks.

As I work with people online through my coaching programs and through emails, I find that there are people that will not settle for less and they are determined to make things happen for them no matter what the cost.  Then there are those that just plain will give me one excuse after another on why they can’t do the things they want to accomplish.

Wasn’t that what I was doing?  Well maybe I was thinking I was being realistic at first but instead of trying to figure out how I could go to jvALERT Live, I was coming up with all the reasons why I could not go.  HMMMMM!

If we want to succeed we need to make it happen no matter what it takes.  We need to quit making excuses on why we can’t.

Let me ask you a question…What do you want?

Now let me ask you another more appropriate question…What is it that you are willing to do to get what you want?

I can’t wait to post again and tell you all of the exciting things that you missed out on by not going to jvAlertLive

But instead of missing out all the time…why not make it happen for you also.

I really do not see myself attending to many other events other than a Ken McArthur event.

These events have a bigger IMPACT on my life than any other event that there is out there.  OK maybe just my opinion.  But I sincerely believe with my whole heart that if you make it possible to attend one of these events you will believe the same as I do.

One of my goals for the near future is to not only share in the experience of the event as an attendee, but to share in the experience as a speaker.  I will make it happen you just watch and see.

Email Marketing: Opt-In List

Opt-in list is a very essential element of successful email marketing strategies

 is a clean list of targeted email addresses of people who are really interested in receiving the emails from. 

We call this an opt-in list.

The email addresses that you obtain through most other methods will not be emails belonging to people that really want to hear from you. You must only email to those who want to receive your emails. 

By sending emails to those who did not choose to be on your list as one of your subscribers you will guarantee that you will begin to receive a lot of complaints from people for sending unsolicited emails, and ban of your email account.You want your list to be built up of emails that contain the people who are interested in your offers.

Make sure you have their consent beforehand.

The opt-in method may not be as quick and easy as buying a list or generating or harvesting email addresses but you will find that it is the best and most reliable way there is.  You will not be sending unsolicited emails and you will have proof that the recipient has subscribed himself to your mailing list.Now don’t get me wrong there are tools you can use to help build your list and end up with good quality leads if you do it correctly.

One that I use regularly is one called “List Bandit”  List Bandit was created by Gary Ambrose and you basically sign up and you will begin to have a list of leads that have agreed to let you send them email in exchange for them to do the same in return.Well this is fine but not very productive in my experience. 

What is lacking is the relationship building which is very crucial.  So I do not usually try and sell to these types of lists, as they are not very responsive.  But can be very valuable if you set up an opt-in page. 

Instead of just promoting to this list, drive them to your squeeze page. 

By doing this you are allowing them to opt-in to your list because they can see the value of your offer you are offering, and in return you can begin to build relationships with them.

Email Marketing: Creating Scarcity and Urgency

jeffsf5.jpgAnother good tactic to use in your email campaign is to use is Urgency and Scarcity:

Urgency and scarcity are two of the things that have been studied that cause people to buy. If you can introduce urgency and scarcity into your offer, then you will get more sales than if you don’t introduce scarcity.

Fear of loss has been known to be one of our biggest motivators as human beings. We do not want to miss out on anything or at least have the opportunity to find out about something.  Using urgency gives that sense to your reader that they are about to miss out or are going to fail to at least hear about what is going on

You will become effective when you become good at communicating that something is time-sensitive or quantity-bound, which simply can’t be ignored.

Some of the most profitable email campaigns have subject lines that have some element of scarcity. You see this with subject lines like, “It ends tonight at midnight!”, “There are only 25 copies out of 500 left”, “A couple spots just opened up”, etc.
Let’s take a look at your own habits.  What kind of action do you take when you have a limited amount of time to get something or to get something done?  When you have to get the money in the bank or risk having an overdraft and the bank is getting ready to close what do you do? 

You take immediate action. You become more inclined to make a more immediate decision when it becomes urgent to proceed right now.  If there is now sense of urgency to get the check in the bank you will wait until the next day.  The same goes for buying. 

You will get a sale faster with a created sense of urgency than you would if there was no urgency and no scarcity associated with that.

If the price is going up on a product make sure you let the reader know that they have to act fast to make sure they get it at the lower price.  Make your reader feel that they will miss out on a deal if they do not act fast. 

You also can use this with any fast action bonus offers that may apply to the product.

Let them know that any fast action bonus offers are going fast and they are about to miss out. 

Make sure you check back in a couple days and I will provide other measures you can use to create urgency and scarcity.

Using scarcity as a marketing strategy is very simple to implement and maintain; why not give it a try, it might be just what your online business needs to take your profits to the next level!

One of the most powerful strategies for improving your credibility is social proof. If you can prove that others are currently using and benefiting from your products/services then you’ve already won half the battle.

If everyone is doing it then I can do it too. This is the mentality that many of us have when it comes to making a choices in our life.

From a marketing standpoint, social proof is the basis of both buzz and large sales figures. It’s also why testimonials are so essential in direct marketing.

Testimonials and case studies are extremely effective in providing social proof. The more honest, genuine testimonials you can include on your website, in your proposals and in your advertising, the more effective this strategy can work.

Include several strong testimonials from satisfied subscribers in your email. This can be in any format, but you may find that multimedia (audio or video social proof) is more “believable”. People like to follow footsteps of other people.

Social proof is one of the most powerful forces involved in growing a successful business that helps you sell products or services. Don’t get me wrong now, quality of your content is still the most important element, but other subtle influences such as social proof may well dictate whether you turn a new visitor into a sale.

Talk about all the hype and buzz over the product, let your reader know how many sales you are making, that the product launch is a huge success.  If they are talking about it in all the forums, let your reader know this.

But don’t fake it…

What will the brand new subscriber, taken in by the fake social proof think when they read your content? 

If you inflating your social proof to get a better sale price, what will the buyer say when they find out different?

By using social proof in your email marketing campaigne you will see better conversion.
